Background:
One of the first and most important steps taken by BLIA founders was the development of a network of shoreline representatives from all areas of the lake. These representatives or “Beach Captains” are the primary link between the association and the residents/members. Besides encouraging membership, the Beach Captains provide a vital communication linkage between the BLIA Board and the members.
Activities & Plans:
- Identify areas where new Beach Captains are required and fill the open positions.
- Invigorate the Beach Captains by:
· clearly identifying the goals and expectations
· keeping them up-to-date in regard to Association issues and Board initiatives/decisions
· seeking their input (and the input they get from the members they represent)
· providing an introductory package which they can give to new residents
3. Support the Beach Captain network by getting parcel identification numbers (PID’s), addresses and property owner names from the county maps and entering the information into the BLIA database. Provide individual shoreline maps and spreadsheets with this data to all Beach Captains.
Current Needs:
- We need volunteers who are willing to play a role in maintaining this vital network.
- Of equal importance, we need a pro-active membership. Beach Captains value their weekends as much as everyone else. Arranging mutually satisfactory times to meet with their shoreline neighbors can be challenging. Take the first step. Contact your Beach Captains. Let them know your needs, your concerns and what you can do to contribute to the success of your association.
